A Message from Representative Daniels

Hello, Neighbors:

We have now begun the second half of the 2009 Legislative Session, and my colleagues and I in the Ohio House of Representatives have spent our summers working diligently to craft legislation based on the issues that matter most to you and your family. With that in mind, it is important for me to hear from you so that I can best represent your views and opinions. My legislative survey is one such way you can communicate your thoughts to me.

Currently, the health care debate in Washington has caught our attention here in Ohio. My colleagues and I are working to find a solution that meets the needs of Ohioans without placing residents in danger of losing or drastically reducing their safety and well-being.  Recently the Ohio Health Care Freedom Act was introduced and will work to protect the fundamental rights of the people of Ohio regarding their personal choice in health care providers.

Because I know schedules are hectic, and work and family  needs are a priority, this blog will help keep you informed about what is happening in Columbus.

It is a pleasure to serve as your state representative and I look forward to hearing from you.

Rep. Daniels: I worked in the health planning, health manpower, and health education areas for many years and we have known that our system is broken. When our costs exceed 15% of our GNP and yet the overall health of our people is dropping in comparison to that of people in other industrialized countries, this is an issue that should have been addressed decades ago. In Ohio millions of dollars are wasted through inappropriate utilization of emergency rooms, excessive insurance premiums to physicians (and not because of excessive settlements as the insurance companies would have us believe) and duplicative record keeping requirements. This issue is too important to the people of this country for our elected officials to put party politics before the needs of the people. I sincerely hope you will be a part of the solution and not vote in a partisan manner that will contribute to the problem.
Thank you, Dan Kennelly, Wilmington, OH

      Dear sir
I hope that you are really working for the people of Ohio – we need healthcare reform – folks with medicare as their insurance are not getting equal care when compared to those with private insurance – they wait 3 months to get into a primary care provider compared with 2 weeks for most folks with insurance – they have to continually update referrals to get seen by specialists – even for their second visit – which is allowing precious time to expire when they need assistance now – I have a daughter who will be ageing out of my insurance in December – as she has preexisting conditions and has been in school instead of the workforce I will be forced to pay 600 a month to cobra insurance for her – I don’t have 600 a month extra – The politicians need to be working for their people not their friends – the insurance companies and the AMA!
